WHO WE ARE
A firm built around
careful counsel.
Cobalt Linden was founded in Kuala Lumpur with one purpose: to offer Malaysian businesses the kind of considered M&A advisory that is not always available through larger transactional practices.
← Back to HomeOUR STORY
Founded in deliberation.
Committed to discretion.
Cobalt Linden was established to address a gap in the Malaysian advisory landscape. Owner-managed businesses and mid-market companies facing a potential transaction — whether acquiring, being acquired, or exploring a combination — often find themselves without a genuinely independent voice at the table. Lawyers and bankers have important roles, but their focus is necessarily on the mechanics of a deal. We occupy a different position.
Our work begins before mandates are issued and before advisors are formally appointed. We sit with leadership teams and help them think through the questions that matter most: whether a transaction is genuinely appropriate for the business at this stage, what the integration would realistically require, and whether the opportunity in front of them is worth the commitment it would demand.
The firm takes its name from two materials associated with considered work — cobalt, which gives depth to glass used in precision instruments, and linden wood, historically favoured by craftsmen who needed material that would not warp under pressure. We hold these as appropriate metaphors for the kind of advisory we aspire to provide.

Our Mission
To provide Malaysian business leaders with the kind of unhurried, independent M&A counsel that helps them make decisions they will stand behind for the long term — not just the duration of a transaction.
Our Approach
We work at the pace the situation requires. We ask questions that others may not ask, read the materials carefully, and offer a written reflection that you can return to. We are not transaction facilitators — we are thinking partners at a critical moment.
Our Commitment
Everything shared with us is held in confidence. We do not discuss our client engagements. We do not accept commissions from third parties. Our only commercial relationship is with the client we are serving.
THE PEOPLE
The team behind
our engagements.

HOW WE WORK
Standards we hold
in every engagement.
Strict Confidentiality
All client information is treated as strictly confidential. We put confidentiality arrangements in place before any substantive discussion, and we do not disclose client identities or engagement details.
Independence of View
We do not accept referral fees or commissions from any third party. Our counsel is offered without commercial interest beyond the engagement itself. You receive an unencumbered opinion.
Written Deliverables
Every engagement concludes with a written output — a reflection, a planning document, or a session note. We believe advice should be legible and returnable, not merely spoken in a room.
Considered Pace
We do not impose artificial urgency. The timeline of an engagement is driven by what the situation genuinely requires, not by billing cycles or commercial incentives to accelerate.
Direct Communication
Clients deal directly with the consultants doing the work — not with account managers or junior staff relaying messages. Every conversation is with someone who understands your situation thoroughly.
Compliance Awareness
We are familiar with the regulatory landscape for business transactions in Malaysia, including relevant SC and CCM requirements, and factor these considerations into our strategic counsel where appropriate.
ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
M&A consulting that puts the
leadership conversation first.
Cobalt Linden occupies a particular position in the Malaysian advisory market. We are not a corporate finance house, an investment bank, or a law firm. We are a consulting practice focused on the strategic and organisational dimensions of mergers and acquisitions — the dimensions that determine whether a transaction will actually work once it is complete.
Our clients are typically owner-managed businesses with revenues between MYR 20 million and MYR 500 million, or mid-market companies whose leadership teams are navigating a transaction without a dedicated internal M&A function. We work equally with prospective acquirers and with businesses that have received an approach. We do not represent either side in a transaction — we work for the person or leadership team thinking through the decision.
Based in Integra Tower, Kuala Lumpur, we work across Peninsular Malaysia and have experience supporting clients in Sabah and Sarawak where engagements require it. All our work is conducted in English, with a clear understanding of the Malaysian business and regulatory environment.
